Quality Control Specialist - Automotive Service

Job Summary

The Quality Control Specialist is the final guarantor of quality and customer satisfaction for Walker Automotive. This position holds ultimate accountability for the client experience upon delivery. Your meticulous inspection of all repairs and the final vehicle presentation must uphold the Walker Automotive mission of "exceeding all customer expectations." This role carries the responsibility for preventing issues, and you will be held directly accountable for any service comebacks related to quality control failures. Your attention to detail and thorough documentation are paramount to our reputation for marketplace ethics and superior service.


Core Responsibilities and Duties

Vehicle Diagnostics and Documentation

  • Perform Pre-Scan: Conduct a thorough electronic pre-scan of all vehicles entering the Walker Automotive service bay to document existing diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
  • Attach Pre-Scan: Ensure the resulting pre-scan report is accurately attached to the customer's repair order/inspection documentation before service begins.
  • Perform Post-Scan: Conduct a full electronic post-scan of the vehicle's onboard systems during the quality control process to confirm all DTCs and warning indicators have been properly addressed and cleared.
  • Attach Post-Scan: Ensure the resulting post-scan report is accurately attached to the customer's Quality Check/inspection to verify the successful completion of electronic system repairs.

Final Quality Assurance and Safety Inspection

  • Guarantee Customer Satisfaction: Perform a comprehensive, hands-on inspection of all mechanical repairs completed by service technicians.
  • Correct all outstanding issues identified during the inspection before the vehicle is cleared for delivery.
  • Ensure all fluids are at proper levels and caps/covers are secured.
  • Verify that wheel lug nuts are correctly retorqued to manufacturer specifications for safety.
  • Confirm that all necessary maintenance reminders and service indicator lights have been reset.
  • Clean under the hood of the vehicle after service is complete.

Service Team Support & Efficiency

  • Perform Pre-Inspection Inspect vehicle before technicians start diagnostics or work. Remove filters and take photos/videos of all items that need repaired or replaced on vehicle.

  • Perform "Rack Attack" Inspections: Conduct initial multi-point inspections in inspection bay or on lifted vehicles to assist technicians in speeding up the repair and service writing process.
  • General Service Repairs: Assist with basic maintenance and quick service tasks, including, but not limited to, installing filters (cabin and engine air) and other general service repairs.
  • Shop Presentation: Actively work to keep the shop clean and presentable for customers and staff.
  • Bay Maintenance: Help technicians clean their bays by removing garbage, organizing tools, and ensuring the workspace is safe and professional, supporting a high-performance, respectful environment.
  • Lot Maintenance: Keep Cars in Parking lot Work Line, Complete Line and Quality check line organized and in order.

Vehicle Test Drive & Delivery Preparation

  • Execute a thorough test drive to confirm the repair is successful and the vehicle operates correctly.
  • Document the out mileage upon test drive completion.
  • Document any warning lights that may still be present after service and test drive, reporting immediately to the Service Writer/Manager.
  • Update the vehicle's status on the Tech Board or digital system accurately and promptly.
  • Perform a mini wash of the vehicle exterior.
  • Execute a final interior inspection and detailing, including:
  • Thoroughly wipe all handprints and smudges.
  • Clean and organize floor mats and vacuum floorboards.
  • Take four-corner photos of the vehicle to document the condition.
  • Observe and document any dirty handprints or existing damage.
  • Complete the digital QC checklist with all findings and add pictures and details.
  • Completed the QC inspection in Tekmetric


Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience in automotive service, repair, or quality control.
  • Strong working knowledge of vehicle mechanical and electrical systems, including advanced diagnostic scanning tools.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a methodical approach to inspections and documentation.
  • Ability to perform light-duty maintenance and general shop support tasks.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

Failure to meet Quality Standards (Steps)

  • Failure to uphold quality standards will result in disciplinary steps outlined in Walker Automotive Standard operating procedures.
 

Compensation

40,000 to 45,000 per year
